Supporting the Wellbeing of Our Communities

Over the years, Haw Par has been giving back to society by supporting a broad spectrum of meaningful projects in Singapore and other countries. Through these initiatives, Haw Par creates unique opportunities to promote wellbeing amongst people from diverse communities and give a voice to worthwhile causes. In celebration of our company’s 50th Anniversary in 2019, staff rallied behind our charitable efforts, helping Haw Par to make a difference. Throughout 2020, 2021 and 2022, we supported COVID-19 relief efforts through donations of Tiger Balm pain-relieving products to healthcare workers and vulnerable communities in Singapore, China, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. In 2023, our commitment extended to new causes. We supported the Lee Kuan Yew Centennial Fund as a tribute to Mr Lee and to nurture future leaders of Singapore.

As delivering health and wellness is an integral part of Haw Par’s business, we keep to our tradition of providing Tiger Balm products to those in need. Vulnerable groups that had received our support included villagers in rural regions in Asia who have limited access to healthcare services, elderly at nursing homes and patients in hospices. In November 2019, over 200 staff supported Haw Par’s Grandparents’ Day outreach, and visited 20 nursing homes to present gifts of Tiger Balm to over 5,500 seniors, as well as the nurses and volunteers who have been taking care of them. We also supported relief efforts for communities impacted by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, 2008 Sichuan earthquake, 2011 Japan Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, 2013 Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and the Covid-19 pandemic. In India, our community support efforts in 2022 and 2023 are focused on initiatives to advance basic maternal and child health in regions that have limited access to healthcare.

Enabling More to Live Healthier, Active Lives

In 2010, we celebrated the Year of the Tiger with the Tiger Balm Record Roar” that raised funds for the Society for the Physically Disabled.

Since 2015, Haw Par has been joining hands with Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) to help build an inclusive society by expanding sporting opportunities for all. Funding from Haw Par goes towards organising competitions such as the Haw Par National Youth Swimming & Athletics Championships and funding the Boccia Team. Boccia is a Paralympic sport played by athletes with cerebral palsy and other locomotor disabilities. To recognise the achievements of the athletes and the community behind them, we also sponsored the Singapore Disability Sports Awards. Our continuous support for the Boccia athletes even through the challenging Covid times, have helped enabled them to achieve impressive performances on the regional and global stage. The athletes of SDSC are role models of resilience and a source of inspiration to us and society.

Our support for para sports goes beyond Singapore’s borders. In France, Tiger Balm promoted inclusive sports at the Marathon Du Beaujolais where Tiger Balm Sports Ambassadors joined the Family Run to show support for runners from our charity partner Tous Cap — an association that provides opportunities for people with mental and associated disabilities to participate in sports.

Spreading Cheer

To bring cheer to the less fortunate, Underwater World Pattaya hosted various charities over the years. Children from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Abuse Center, Father Ray Foundation, and many others have been touched by their visits to our oceanarium. Feeding sessions by the divers at the Underwater Tunnel and other up-close animal encounters added to the immersive experience. To make the visits memorable, the staff put up clownfish mascot performances for their special guests, surrounded by sharks, rays and fish.

Underwater World for children

Underwater World Pattaya treated the children from the Wishing Well Foundation to a wondrous underwater journey.

The United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 to achieve sustainable development for all by 2030. Haw Par contributes to five of the goals.
